A Guide to Free Museum Day 2019


It’s time for the 2019 rendition of Free Museum Day! Spend it in St. Pete’s gorgeous museums. We’ve compiled a list of participating museums for you here so you can take full advantage of this fabulous event.

Dali Museum

Located right along the beautiful Downtown St. Petersburg waterfront, the Dali makes a great Free Museum Day stop. Free Museum Day at the Dali is for Pinellas County residents, so bring ID (non-Pinellas residents, don’t worry! – simply purchase admission for the day and receive a voucher for a free return visit before October 31st). Parking at the Dali is also free for the day! The Dali opens the second part of its Goya exhibit on Saturday, in addition to the permanent Dali collection and many more fun features.

Museum of Fine Arts

Right on Beach Drive resides the fabulous Museum of Fine Arts! In addition to the permanent collections, the origami exhibition “Above the Fold” closes the following day, making Free Museum Day the perfect excuse to check it out. Parking is limited, so parking in a nearby garage or taking the Downtown Looper is advisable.

The Museum of Fine Arts is open from 10AM to 5PM. Last admission at 3PM for this special event.

James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art

Among the many other amazing museums participating is the James Museum! Along with the museum’s permanent collections is the new Environmental Impact II exhibit, so be sure to take advantage of this perfect opportunity to take a look! Parking is available on levels 3 and 4 of the South Core Garage (cash and credit accepted).

Florida Holocaust Museum

The Florida Holocaust Museum will also join in on Free Museum Day! In addition to its permanent collections, the museum currently hosts “Beaches, Benches and Boycotts,” an exhibition devoted to the history of civil rights here in St. Petersburg. Parking is limited, so parking in a nearby garage or taking the Downtown Looper is advisable.

The Florida Holocaust Museum is open from 10AM to 4PM.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum

The Dr. Carter G. Woodson Museum offers free admission as well on Free Museum Day, along with a series of fun events throughout the day! Check out The Florida Orchestra Petting Zoo (10:30AM-12PM), a drum circle (11AM-11:30AM), a talk by artist Herb Snitzer (11AM), and more. Some street parking available.
